MIAA Gen. Manager Jose Angel Honrado Blames Media for NAIA Incident

The controversial Manial International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Jose Angel Honrado blamed the Philippine media for magnifying a number of incidents at his agency. Some of the most controversial issues under his leadership is the “tanim-bala” (bullet-planting), leaking roofs, sink holes, collapsing ceilings, power outages and many other controversial issues.

Gen. Manager Jose Angel Honrado made his statement of blaming the media after his last flag-raising ceremony as MIAA head. According to Honrado, his woes at NAIA started when the main international hub in the Philippines, NAIA was being named in 2011 as the World’s Worst Airport by an international travel website.

The MIAA General Manager admitted that he and other workers at NAIA were disheartened by the title given to the airport by some of the world’s most prominent travelers.

Aside from the tagged as worst airport, NAIA was also “devastated” by the controversial “tanim-bala” incidents in 2015 after the agency was blamed for failure to resolve the problem even if it was not directly involved in the airport security screening process.

The outgoing MIAA chief also noted that the controversial five-hour power outage that hit NAIA Terminal 3 last April, was a “blessing in disguise” because they became more aware of the importance of maintenance.

General Manager Honrado was also quoted as saying “The succeeding months proved to be nonsignificant but not to the media. The broken glass panels, a 2×2 meter slab falling, the low water pressure and the wrong spelling of the signage were highlighted for lack of something big,” Honrado said.
