Creek Rehabilitation was implemented in Iloilo City by the local government unit of Zarraga. It was the Sigangao Creek has started as part of the rehabilitation.
Creek Rehabilitation project was started as a part of preparation for the unpredictable flood in the area. Zarraga, Iloilo is considered as the most flood-prone area.
According to some report it is the last town which serves as the catch-basin of the Jalaur River. The Barangay Sigangao, which is along the Sigangao Creek, has always been reported always experiencing intense flooding.
The Creek Rehabilitation project also includes the construction of a farm-to-market road beside the creek. But the said interview by Mayor John Tarrosa of Zarraga, that it may take years to finish the plan of rehabilitating the creek, which includes resettlement of residents living within the no-build zone.
The project will also have an irrigation system which would make use of half of the water passing through the water system for agricultural use.
The local government unit of Zarraga, Iloilo started already the project to prevent the intense flood in the area. Iloilo City is belong to the third type climate region which has no pronounced maximum rain period and no distinct dry and wet season while it is not within typhoon belt but it has its own share of typhoons that visits the province occasionally.
