A woman was shot and killed by her own cousin, according to local police in Banate, Iloilo City. Joyce Ferrer, 26, and Mel Ferrer, 42, both of Brgy, were identified as the victim and suspect, respectively. Merced is one of these towns.
Around 8 a.m., the incident occurred. According to the investigation, the cousin’s accusation was purportedly based on a hearsay outside their house, said Police Master Sergeant Joelito Babayo III.
When they met, things got heated until the suspect pulled out a.45 caliber gun. The victim bolted for safety. She did, however, fall into a ditch.
After shooting the victim in the chest, the suspect escaped. When the victim arrived at the hospital, he was already dead. The case is still being looked into.
Tsismis, or gossip, has become ingrained in Filipino culture. Every town in the Philippines has a group of “tsismosa,” or gossipers, who meet every day to discuss the latest news in their neighborhood.
Filipinos, like people in other nations, like gossiping, although the word “tsismis” has a more negative meaning than “gossip” in English. Gossip simply refers to someone who enjoys gossiping or spreading other people’s secrets, whereas “tsismis” relates to lying and tale.
