Here are the various types of sentences based on its structure.
TYPES OF SENTENCES – Sentences have different types and here are some details about according to the structure.
Sentence structure is the physical nature of a sentence. It shows how the elements are presented and just like choosing words, English writers must strive to learn this in order to create rhythmic prose and to keep their reader interested. A structure is composed of subject, predicate, objects, phrases, punctuation, and others and deals with several independent and dependent clauses with their combination.

Previously, we learned about sentences according to function, and now, we will be doing the types that are according to the structure:
- Simple Sentence – It has an independent clause with no conjunction or dependent clause.
Examples:
- The flower is color yellow.
- I caught the ball.
- She went to the mall.
- Compound Sentence – It has two independent clauses joined by a conjunction like and, but, or, for, nor, yet, so and so on.
Examples:
- I fell off my bike, and I broke my arm.
- She went to the mall and bought a new dress.
- Leila is sleeping, so I have to cook now.
- Complex Sentence – It has one independent clause and at least one dependent clause combined with conjunctions and subordinators (who, which, since, while, because, if)
Examples:
- When I fell off my bike, I broke my arm.
- While I was sleeping, Aida cooked the food.
- I am in love with you since we were young.
- Compound-Complex Sentence – It has multiple independent clauses and at least one dependent clause combined with both conjunctions and subordinators.
Examples:
- I went to the hospital because I broke my arm when I fell off my bike.
- He cried because the ball hit him, so I apologized immediately.
- “Don’t aim for success if you want it; just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally.” (from David Frost)
