FlipTop rapper John Ross Delos Santos, also known as “LilJohn”, died on-the-spot in Cavite after being shot on Sunday afternoon. He was 35 years old.
According to Police Lt. Col. Junar Alamo, chief of Imus City Police, Santos sat on his motorcycle in front of a restaurant when an unidentified suspect shot him in the head at the main road of Legian 2B subdivision in Brgy. Carsadang Bago 1, Imus City, Cavite. He then declared dead on arrival.
According to the police, two bullet shell casings were recovered in the crime scene. They will investigate the motive of this incident.
FlipTop Rapper lived in Tambo, Parañaque and known for being one of the emcees in the battle league. One of his remarkable lines was “Habol mo legacy, habol ko talent fee!” (You’re aiming for the legacy, mine for talent fee!)
FlipTop Battle League shared their sentiments in their Facebook posts as a way of expressing their sympathy to the victim.
“Sa kabila ng ginagawa namin sa entablado, at sa kabila ng kahit anong di mapagsangayunan ng mga kasapi nito, may special unspoken bond talaga lahat ng emcees at hiphop, lalo’t mula sa indibidwal at kolektibong pinagdaanan at pinaghirapan para sa kultura natin, para sa naging kung ano siya ngayon. Kaya sobrang bigat, sobrang lungkot,” according to FlipTop.
(In spite of what we perform on stage, as well as disagreements among its members, there is really a special unspoken bond among emcees and hiphop, especially on the individual and collective experiences and challenges for our culture, for who he (LilJohn) is now. That’s why it’s too hard, too sad.)
“Mula sa buong FlipTop, lahat ng nakasama mo sa hiphop, at lahat ng napasaya at nainspira mo sa battle rap. RIP LILJOHN” FlipTop added.
