Aegis to Honor Late Vocalist Mercy Sunot in Valentine Concert

The legendary OPM rock band Aegis is set to hold a poignant Valentine’s Day concert, “Aegis: Halik sa Ulan (A Valentine Special),” on February 1 and 2 at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City. This will mark the group’s first major performance without one of its beloved vocalists, Mercy Sunot, who passed away in November in San Francisco, California, after a battle with cancer.

“We have to do good kasi iba talaga yung kumpleto kami,” shared vocalist Juliet Sunot, Mercy’s sister, during a press conference. “We wanted her to get better, but she left us for good. We have to keep going. Gagalingan po namin para sa kanya.”

The band members turned emotional as they reflected on Mercy’s absence, recalling the immense difficulty of moving forward without her. “Halos hindi na po kami nakakanta when we learned she was gone. The audience would sing her parts instead,” Juliet admitted.

Despite the sorrow, the band vowed to honor Mercy’s dream of performing again. Juliet emphasized, “Before her operation, she said she wanted to come home and be part of the concert. Pero wala na siya. We’ll continue this for her.”

In addition to celebrating their music, the concert will serve as a tribute to Mercy. Part of the proceeds will benefit her family.

Day 1 will feature guest performances by Morissette Amon, Formula 5, and a surprise artist, while Day 2 will see Ogie Alcasid, Jona, Julie Anne San Jose, and Formula 5 joining the six-member ensemble.

Juliet dismissed rumors that young singer Lyca Gairanod, who gained fame performing Aegis songs, would replace Mercy. “Mercy will not be replaced. She will forever be part of Aegis. Wala pong mawawala na Mercy,” she clarified.

The group also shared their wish to collaborate with Sofronio Vasquez, winner of “The Voice US” Season 26, whom they met before his victory.
