Perhaps most of us were surprised by this revelation, but the truth is that Aga Muhlach and Charlene Gonzales were never a couple before they got married, and Aga Muhlach admitted this in an interview where he detailed their real status before they decided to get married.
Almost all of us know Aga Muhlach for his innocent-looking face in showbiz, where he seems to never age due to his charisma and enduring good looks. He was also one of the bachelors in showbiz during those times. He had a previous relationship with Janice de Belen, with whom he had a son, Luigi Muhlach, but they eventually separated.
As time passed, Aga Muhlach was linked to other showbiz personalities due to his involvement in films, particularly with Leah Salonga. However, what really caught people’s attention was when he became the boyfriend of Puerto Rican Miss Universe Dayanara Torres, who even visited the Philippines and starred in a movie.
In 1993, Dayanara became Miss Universe, and the following year, she returned to the Philippines to crown the next Miss Universe in 1994. Charlene Gonzales participated and won 1st runner-up in that pageant. After that, Dayanara stayed in the Philippines to make movies, and she and Aga Muhlach developed a relationship that lasted for a few years before they eventually parted ways, and Dayanara returned to Puerto Rico.
“Oki Doki Doc” (also known as “Oki Doki Dok”) was a Philippine sitcom that aired on ABS-CBN from October 23, 1993, to December 2, 2000. In this show, Aga Muhlach was paired with Charlene Gonzales, and it was there that they became closer. Aga didn’t even realize how much he cared for Charlene until one day they were talking, and he realized that she was the woman he wanted to marry. During that time, Aga felt that he was of the right age to get married, so he saw Charlene as the one for him.
He was also surprised when he told his mother about his intention to get married, and she immediately knew that Charlene was the woman he wanted to marry, even though they didn’t have a formal romantic relationship. According to Aga’s mother, she could see how he took care of Charlene. Afterward, Aga proposed to Charlene, even though they weren’t a couple, but Charlene accepted his proposal, and they got married.
Despite the unconventional nature of their love story, their marriage was successful, and they even had twins named Andrés and Atasha. Atasha has now become known in the entertainment industry and is part of the noontime show “E.A.T.”
