The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) has brought a significant surprise this year by removing the age limit for participants in Miss Universe Argentina-Buenos Aires. Seventy-two-year-old Iris Amelia Alioto, a dance teacher, translator, actress, and model, has decided to take part in this prestigious competition.
If she emerges victorious in the regional pageant, Iris will compete in Miss Universe Argentina, where the winning candidate becomes the representative of the country in the annual global competition. She will also be the first senior citizen in the country to contend for the highly sought-after title.
Iris is not the only one bringing honor to elderly women in the field of beauty pageants. Another 69-year-old candidate in Miss Universe Philippines-Quezon City is capturing the public’s attention.
Jocelyn Cubales, also known as Joyce Penas Pilarsky, is a fashion designer who has participated in various beauty pageants in the Philippines and abroad. She was the first Pinay to join Mrs. Universe 2017, where she was recognized for her advocacy and charity work for children and women in the Philippines. She was also crowned Mrs. Philippines Germany in 2000, as well as Mrs. Asia International, Mrs. Asia International Global, and Mrs. Ecotourism in 2014.
As a candidate in Miss Universe Philippines-Quezon City, with the coronation night scheduled for February 5, if Jocelyn is proclaimed the winner, she will represent the city in the 2024 edition of Miss Universe Philippines.
The participation of these mature women in beauty pageants serves as an inspiration to many, demonstrating that beauty and capability are not limited by age. It also opens doors for more individuals, regardless of age, to pursue their dreams and engage in a dedicated pursuit of national honor.
The spotlight isn’t just on the history of beauty and elegance; it also highlights the success and dedication these women have proven in various aspects of life. Their stories show that self-confidence and strong determination are crucial in achieving dreams, even in life stages where success may seem unlikely to many.
With the emergence of this new chapter in the world of beauty pageants, elderly women are not only inspiring others but also paving the way for the evolution of societal perspectives on the meanings of beauty, success, and aging. Their participation serves as a model of courage and hope, proving that despite the passage of time, dreams and successes are waiting for anyone willing to face the challenges of life.
