A controversy involving Bacolod City Mayor Albee Benitez has erupted after a complaint-affidavit allegedly filed by his wife, Dominique “Nikki” Benitez, surfaced online, accusing the local chief executive of violating the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act (RA 9262).

The document, which began circulating on social media this week, reportedly includes allegations of marital infidelity and psychological abuse against Mayor Benitez. The complaint is said to be grounded on supposed instances of emotional neglect and mental anguish allegedly caused by the mayor’s actions throughout their marriage.
A striking detail from the affidavit is the mention of actress and social media star Ivana Alawi. The affidavit allegedly identifies her as someone involved in an “illicit relationship” with the mayor, further intensifying public speculation.
Online users quickly recalled a viral moment in early 2024 when Mayor Benitez and Alawi were photographed together at an airport in Japan. The pictures sparked rumors at the time, although both parties remained silent on the nature of their association. Those images have now resurfaced and are being re-examined in light of the affidavit.

As of this writing, neither Mayor Benitez nor Ivana Alawi has released an official statement addressing the allegations. The Bacolod City government has not issued any comment either, while attempts to reach representatives of both public figures have been unsuccessful.
Legal experts have noted that if the complaint is verified and formally filed before a court, Mayor Benitez may be summoned to answer the charges. Republic Act 9262 penalizes acts of violence—whether physical, emotional, or psychological—committed by a husband or partner that harm women and children.
The development has stirred discussions among Bacolodnons and political observers, especially given Mayor Benitez’s high profile not only in local governance but also in national business and entertainment circles.
Meanwhile, supporters of both Benitez and Alawi have urged the public not to rush to judgment and allow due process to take its course.

The case is expected to draw more attention in the coming days, especially if either party issues a public response or if formal court proceedings begin.
