An incident happened in Brgy. Bunga, Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental, an 18-year-old male was hospitalized after being injected with insecticide by his 15-year-old girlfriend, who wanted to end their relationship.
According to an interview conducted by Bombo Radyo with Barangay Captain Romeo Mollenido, the girl messaged the boy on Wednesday, asking to meet near a local school to talk. During their conversation, the boy informed the girl that he wanted to end their relationship, to which she agreed.
However, as the boy left, the girl requested a final hug. During the embrace, she injected the boy’s neck with insecticide using a syringe she had brought. A few minutes later, the boy began feeling unwell, experiencing dizziness and vomiting.
The girl quickly bought milk and gave it to the boy, hoping it would counteract the poison. Unfortunately, his condition did not improve, and he was subsequently taken to the hospital where he was admitted for treatment.
Mollenido mentioned that a settlement has been reached between both parties, with the girl’s family agreeing to cover the boy’s medical expenses. It was also revealed that the girl had copied the act from a video she saw on YouTube.
Mollenido added that the couple had been in a relationship for only a month, and the boy had no intention of reconciling with the girl. The incident highlights the influence of online content on young minds and the potential dangers of mimicking harmful actions seen on the internet.
This shocking event underscores the importance of monitoring and guiding young people in their use of social media and online platforms. The accessibility of harmful content can lead to real-life consequences, as demonstrated by this case. It also brings to light the need for educational programs that teach young individuals about healthy relationships and the proper ways to handle breakups.
As the boy recovers in the hospital, the community of Brgy. Bunga is left to grapple with the implications of this incident. The local authorities are likely to look into measures to prevent such occurrences in the future, emphasizing the need for better digital literacy and emotional support systems for the youth.
This incident serves as a grim reminder of the potential dangers posed by unregulated access to online content and the critical role of community and family in guiding and protecting young individuals from such influences.
