Brillante Mendoza, the director of Metro Manila Film Festival entry Mindanao, admitted that he wanted to work with Vilma Santos and Sharon Cuneta.
During the special screening for his MMFF film entry last Monday, December 9, director Brillante Mendoza said that he had invited Vilma Santos and Nora Aunor to watch his film.
“Si Ate Vi nag-text nga dapat andito siya nagyon kaya lang may session daw ngayon Monday eh,” Mendoza said. “Si ate Guy nasa Bicol ngayon. Pero kinongratulate nila pareho si Judy Ann (Santos).“
He also said that he was already waiting to do a movie with Vilma Santos when the timing is right.
“Merong mga usapan. Schedule lang talaga. Siyempre iba na talaga ngayon ang priorities niya. Ano na siya politician na siya so yun ang priority niya,” he said. “Gusto rin niya. Ayaw lang niya na magtrabaho kami na half-hearted or hindi talaga siya nakabuhos ang concentration niya sa akin. Iba iba yung project kasi nag-e-evolve na rin eh.“
He revealed that he has enjoyed working with all his award-winning stars. He also admitted that he was open to working with other showbiz veterans such as Sharon Cuneta.
“Alam mo lahat sila sabi ko nga lahat sila mga icon, ang laki ng na-contribute nila sa industry, from Sharon and until the young actors now, sobrang interesting talaga makatrabaho sila. Kung meron nga sana akong project para sa kanilang lahat eh. Kaya lang siyempre, katulad ni Judy Ann, it took some time,” he shared. “Si Tito Alfie (Lorenzo, Juday’s original manager who passed away in 2017) pa yung usapan namin nung buhay pa siya. May bata pa si Juday tapos wala pang project na nababagay so ayan dumating. Si Cherry Pie nun magkaka-sunod sunod tapos ang tagal bago dumating si Jaclyn. Pero nung dumating siya, best actress kaagad. Si Ate Guy wala siya for the longest time nung pumasok siya sa Thy Womb puro Best Actress ang kanyang nakuha di ba? So I think it’s just a matter of timing.“
