Carlos Yulo, the Philippines’ gymnastics pride, is not just celebrating his double gold medal victory at the 2024 Paris Olympics—he’s also gearing up for a major life milestone. The 24-year-old athlete recently revealed his plans to marry his long-time girlfriend, Chloe San Jose, next year.
The couple’s relationship started in 2020 after Chloe sent Carlos a message on X (formerly Twitter). In a social media post, Chloe shared how she made the first move by sending him a message that read, “Hi, I’m a fan po. Just came across your account and noticed you’re not as active as before. I hope you’re doing well. Stay safe.” To her surprise, Carlos replied, and that simple conversation blossomed into a romance.
Despite the challenges of a long-distance relationship—Carlos was training in Japan while Chloe was studying in Australia—the couple managed to stay strong. They finally met in person for the first time in 2021 during the Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam, where Carlos was competing.
Chloe has been a pillar of support for Carlos throughout his gymnastics career. After his double-gold triumph at the Paris Olympics, she took to Instagram to express her pride, posting a video of their celebration with the caption, “We did it all in God’s name.” She has joined him at various international competitions, including the 2024 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup series in Qatar, cheering him on from the sidelines.
Carlos, standing at 4’9″, may be small in stature, but he has proven that his abilities in gymnastics are nothing short of extraordinary. Known for his dedication to the sport, he trains rigorously—six hours a day, every day, with no breaks for holidays or birthdays. His commitment to his craft has paid off, as evidenced by his remarkable performances on the world stage.
Carlos’ success, however, did not come without sacrifices. He attributes his stunted growth to the intense and continuous training he has undergone since childhood. “The rigorous training, especially in floor exercises where there’s extreme impact on my knees and feet, restricted my bone growth,” he explained during a recent interview.
Outside of the gym, Carlos has a softer side, especially when it comes to his relationship with Chloe. The couple’s love story, which began with a social media message, has now progressed to discussions of marriage. Carlos recently shared, “We want to get married next year and start a family, maybe after I compete in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.”
The wedding plans have already sparked excitement among their circle of friends. During a recent event, jeweler Christine Dayrit offered to design their wedding bands, to which Carlos responded with an impish smile.
Their life together extends beyond competitions and training. Chloe is known for cooking Carlos his favorite comfort food, like sopas with Spam and chicken, a dish that Carlos especially enjoys on rainy days. The couple currently resides in a fully furnished three-bedroom condominium in McKinley Hill, a prize Carlos won from Megaworld Corp.
With wedding plans on the horizon and more competitions ahead, Carlos Yulo and Chloe San Jose’s journey together is only just beginning. As Carlos continues to train and prepare for future Olympic glory, it’s clear that Chloe will be by his side, supporting him every step of the way.
