Paulo Coelho tweeted about Coco Martin’s ‘Kinatay’
World-renowned writer Paulo Coelho commended the movie ‘Kinatay‘ of award-winning director Brillante Mendoza featuring Ang Probinsyano actor Coco Martin.
The said film premiered at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival with English subtitle Butchered/The Execution Of P. Armando Lao wrote the screenplay.
Coco played the role of Peping, a criminology student who was involved in a syndicate. He aimed to support the financial needs of his family through the money from the syndicate group.
He witnessed how a prostitute was butchered because she has a debt to the syndicate’s big boss.
The film also featured Maria Isabel Lopez, John Regala, Jhong Hilario, Mercedes Cabral, Julio Diaz, Lauren Novero, and Benjie Filomeno.

Kinatay was nominated for a Palme d’Or and it won the Prix de la mise en scène or best director award for Brillante Mendoza.
After 9 years, this film caught the attention of Paulo Coelho. He tweeted his remark about the Filipino movie last December 28, based on PEP’s report.
“One of the most disturbing movies I watched in 2018 – great screenplay, director, actors. A Filipino movie that, if it was directed by Tarantino, would be shortlisted for the Oscar,” the best-selling author tweeted.
Coelho was referring to Quentin Tarantino, a filmmaker who is known for his violent films such as the Kill Bill series.

Apparently, the writer was able to see the quality of the Filipino film he watched.
Paulo Coelho rose to fame as an author through his novel The Alchemist back in 1988.
