Willie Nepomuceno received death threats due to his job of impersonating politicians
Famous impersonator Willie Nepomuceno revealed that he received death threat due to his impersonation of various political personalities in the Philippines.
He said that there had been incidents that his life was threatened just because he imitated a political figure.
Based on the article published in Bandera which entertainment columnist Alex Brosas penned, Willie said that he got used with the death threats.
“Sanay na ako diyan, panahon pa ni Marcos. In fact, general na ang kausap ko. Maganda naman ang pakiusap. Ipapatawag ako sa table nila. ‘Sana ‘wag na lang gawin si Sir kasi president naman natin ‘yan.’ Sige naman ako,” the impersonator revealed.
On the other hand, he said that on the following day, he still did it.
“It’s part of my vocabulary so kinabukasan ay gagawin ko uli dahil may issue rin ako, eh. Issue of the country, of our fellow citizens na ipinaglalaban ko pa rin,” Willie said.
However, his upcoming concert with Nonoy Zuñiga titled “Music And Laughter” will not feature any impersonation of politician.
The said show will happen at the Theatre of Solaire on July 27.
Willie shared the reason why there will be no political impersonation.
According to him, it is because there so many comedian and comedienne who are already doing this kind of comedy act.
“Hindi muna kasi ang dami nang gumagaya. Kapag sinabing political humor, gagawin ng iba. Sabihin na natin na medyo nababastos ang ibang politician. Tapos ang tawag na nila doon ay political humor. I go beyond that,” Willie Nepomuceno said.
He added that doing political satire is not that easy. For the famous impersonator, one should think carefully and respect the person being impersonated.
Willie also said that he is trying to stay away from the misconception because the country has become more polarized, based on the article.
