Chito Miranda, frontman of the band Parokya ni Edgar, recently shared a touching Christmas message on social media, accompanied by a family photo featuring his wife, Neri Naig-Miranda, and their children. This marks the couple’s first public post together since Neri’s arrest last month, a development that has drawn widespread public attention.
Neri Naig-Miranda was arrested on November 23 at a Pasay City mall over allegations of syndicated estafa and violations of the Securities Regulation Code. Her arrest shocked fans and fueled intense speculation, with many wondering if she would spend the holiday season in detention.
However, a decision by the Pasay Regional Trial Court (RTC) provided a reprieve. The court quashed the arrest warrant for syndicated estafa, citing procedural errors. Specifically, it noted that the subpoena intended to notify Naig-Miranda of the charges was sent to the wrong address in Batangas City rather than her residence in Cavite.
“[T]he lack of proper notice to accused Miranda in flagrant violation of her constitutional right to due process of law invalidates the preliminary investigation conducted by the OCP-Pasay City as well as the subsequent acts or proceedings emanating therefrom,” the court declared.
Despite this, the Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office was ordered to conduct a new preliminary investigation. Naig-Miranda’s motion to withdraw the case entirely was denied. Her arraignment for alleged violations of the Securities Regulation Code has been rescheduled for January 9, 2025, while the arraignment for syndicated estafa, initially set for December 3, was also postponed.
Following her arrest, the Pasay court ordered Naig-Miranda’s release. Jail Supt. Jayrex Bustinera, spokesperson for the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, confirmed that the bureau received a court order for her release. This development allowed the Miranda family to spend Christmas together, a relief amidst ongoing legal challenges.
Chito Miranda’s heartfelt Christmas message expressed deep gratitude and unwavering faith. In his post, he wrote:
*”Merry Christmas mula sa Miranda Family. ❤️
Maraming, maraming salamat, Lord, for always taking care of us. 🙏🏼😔
Thank You po kasi never Nyo kami pinabayaan.
Sobrang ramdam namin yung pagmamahal Mo sa amin through the people You have chosen to surround us with.
…and for them, we thank You. 🙏🏼❤️
Maligayang, maligayang Pasko sa inyong lahat.”*
The post received an outpouring of support from fans, friends, and fellow celebrities, who lauded the family’s resilience during these trying times. Many admired Chito’s optimism and the couple’s commitment to celebrating the holidays together despite the circumstances.
As 2025 approaches, the Mirandas face the uncertainties of Neri’s legal battles with renewed faith and a strengthened bond. Their journey has become an inspiration to their followers, reminding them of the power of family and gratitude even in adversity.
