The salon industry in the Philippines is mourning the passing of David Charlton, the esteemed founder and CEO of David’s Salon, who has died at 69. In a Facebook post on Tuesday evening, October 29, 2024, Davines Philippines announced his passing, which was confirmed by his daughter, Laura.
David’s wake will be held at The Chapels in Heritage Park, Taguig City, beginning Wednesday, October 30, at 2 P.M., and will continue until November 2. A final mass will be held on November 3 at 1 P.M. to honor the life of the iconic hairdresser.
A Foreign Icon Who Found Success in the Philippines
David Charlton was born on July 12, 1955, in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, England. In 1978, he arrived in the Philippines, initially managing Rever Salon at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Makati City. By 1989, he had established his salon, opening the first branch of David’s Salon at New Farmer’s Market in Quezon City.
Charlton became a renowned figure in the local beauty industry, notably serving as the official hairdresser for candidates in the prestigious Binibining Pilipinas pageant, including Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach. Under his leadership, David’s Salon expanded rapidly, growing to over 200 branches nationwide.

As a leader, David was more than just a boss to his employees; he was affectionately called “Amo,” a term denoting respect and endearment in Filipino culture.
