‘Barong Is For Interment, Not For Inaugural’, Says Duterte
The incoming president-elect Rodrigo Duterte is not expected to wear a Barong Tagalog for his inauguration on June 30.
In a report by Philstar, Duterte says that wearing the native attire “corny” would rather wear something that’s more comfortable.
Duterte expressed that he doesn’t even want to wear an Amerikana (suit) and he would prefer wearing a kimono (a Japanese attire) in a press conference.
“I don’t like barong. I don’t like Amerikana (suit). Maybe I’ll wear a kimono,” Duterte said.
“You know why? Almost all of my friends who d1ed wore barong (at their fun3ral),” he added.
He was also known to be wearing simple clothes in almost all his media appearances and even in his campaign sorties. The report added that he is not interested in hiring a personal stylist..
The incoming 16th President of the Republic of the Philippines even insisted that people must accept him who he is.
“I don’t want to adjust my life just because I’m president. It’s so corny. You take me for what I am,” Duterte said.
Earlier, the first ever President that will be coming from Mindanao said to his transition team the inaugural rites must be as simple as possible.
The spokesman of the transition team, Peter Laviña, said that the inauguration to be held in the Malacañang Palace would be attended by a limited number of guests only.
The whole Philippines and even the world is just waiting for the coming in the office of Duterte who had promised many heavy things like ending criminality in just three to six months.
Will Duterte really won’t wear a Barong?

I agree with the President-Elect. It’s not the look of the dress that takes care of the People and the Country. It’s the attitude of a leader that is needed to carryout the tasks, duties and responsibilities. The Great Leader Mahatma Gandhi wore his usual attire when he was Prime Minister of India.
