Recently, the recommendation of the government to phase out old vehicles on the road has been a topic of discussion. This is due to its negative impact on the environment. Many drivers, especially those operating jeepneys, are affected as approximately 80 to 90 percent of these vehicles are already old. Most of them are just rented vehicles, and the cost of modern jeepneys is quite high, reaching millions each.
With the high price of gasoline and fares nowadays, many are complaining, prompting people to use different types of vehicles as alternatives. Motorcycles and bicycles are becoming popular choices since they don’t require gasoline or consume minimal fuel. Various types of electric vehicles are also emerging.
Riding in modern vehicles is comfortable, as most of them are equipped with air conditioning. This is unlike traditional jeepneys that often break down on the road due to their old age.
In Bacolod City, many modern vehicles are operating, some of which have a unique design. There’s an electric jeepney designed based on the traditional Sarao jeepney. The Sarao design is a familiar sight in Manila and was inspired by a German military vehicle. It has a wide body and an attractive paint design. Moreover, it produces no pollution since it’s electric. In the coming years, we can expect to see more electric jeepneys on the roads.
