Fil-am Chef brought unique Filipino flavors to New York.
Filipino-American chef Jordan Andino offers unique and delicious Filipino flavors in the Big Apple after opening a new restaurant called 2nd City in New York City’s West Village.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Jordan said that he has been dreaming of owning a restaurant since he was 11, and that dream has finally came true last May.
“It’s Amasian, meaning American-Asian cuisine. We’re a Filipino taqeria, fast casual concept,” he said. “We’re definitely not trying at all to be traditional Filipino. The Filipino purist would hate this place.”
According to Andino, his restaurant introduces unique Filipino foods and many of its recipes were inspired by his grandmother.
Chef Jordan was born in Canada but was raised in California. He was trained in Napa and New York by his father who also owns a restaurant.
Chef Jordan said that at a young age, he has already a lot of experience in the kitchen.
“At 9 years, I would start swatting flies, peeling shrimp, taking out the garbage, cleaning the trashcan, sweeping and mopping the back, literally, summer-winter from 9 years old to 17 that’s all I would do,” he said.
The 27-year-old celebrity chef added that the 2nd City is not the end of his dream, but rather the beginning.
Aside from owning a restaurant, Jordan also appears in different cooking shows in the United States. He also cooked for the popular celebrity family, the Kardashians.
