Gary Valenciano, the Philippines’ beloved “Mr. Pure Energy,” recently addressed concerns about his health and retirement rumors following an abrupt end to his concert. His wife, Angeli Pangilinan Valenciano, reassured fans through a heartfelt Facebook post that Gary’s vital signs were stable and that he was taking the necessary rest.
Gary’s health concerns came after a brief but intense concert performance during his Pure Energy: One More Time show on December 20, 2024. During his performance, Gary took a moment to share his thoughts with the audience. Reflecting on his 40-year career, he posed the question that has crossed many minds: “How long can this go on for?” He revealed that he received an answer in a profound way only God could deliver.
Gary’s Pure Energy: One Last Time concert, which many fans speculated could mark the end of his career, left fans wondering if he was truly retiring. However, in his most recent concert, he made it clear that his retirement was not imminent. He recalled an emotional moment from 2008 when he celebrated his 25th anniversary in the industry at the Araneta Coliseum, facing vocal issues that almost stopped the show. That evening, his wife Angeli prayed for him, and Gary experienced a vision that would later guide his path.
He shared with the audience how in the vision, he was walking toward a horizon with a Divine Presence beside him, enveloped in peace. “It was undoubtedly the God that you have often heard me speak about,” Gary said. As he walked, he heard a reassuring voice, telling him, “It’s okay, Gary. It’s okay to stop and look back.”
Gary described how he looked back and saw his past concerts, including the one from the night before, and felt a deep sense of fulfillment and nostalgia. “It was fun, no?” the voice asked, to which Gary tearfully responded, “Yeah, it was.” But the vision continued, guiding him toward the horizon where, though it appeared empty, Gary understood that there was more ahead, waiting for him.
“There’s more, but it’s that way,” the voice said, pointing toward the horizon. Gary, feeling reassured, nodded and started walking forward with the Divine Presence, knowing that a new adventure was waiting. “It may not be as grand, Gary, but it will be fulfilling. Maybe even more fulfilling than the past,” the voice assured him.
Gary emphasized that despite the physical challenges brought by age and his ongoing health struggles—including a lifelong battle with Type 1 diabetes, kidney cancer, heart surgery, and other ailments—he was still motivated to continue his journey. He acknowledged the exhaustion that comes with performing at his age, especially during his 60th year, but he emphasized that there was a deeper calling driving him forward. “This energizing need to go deeper into the spirit of uplifting, encouraging, and inspiring many more,” he shared with the audience.
Through his heartfelt words, Gary reminded his fans that, for as long as his heart beats, he will continue to inspire and share his talents with the world. Despite ongoing rumors about his retirement, Gary made it clear that while he may be closing one chapter, a new, even more meaningful journey was ahead. “I’ve given you my all, as I’ve consistently tried to do in every performance I’ve given you in the past 40 years. All meant to move you right here,” he concluded, pointing to his heart.
Gary Valenciano’s resilience in the face of health challenges is a testament to his dedication to his craft and his unwavering faith in his calling. His fans can rest assured that while he may take moments to reflect and rest, his journey is far from over.
