Filipino rock band IV of Spades (IVOS) has made an emotional and unexpected comeback with the release of their latest single “Aura” — their first musical offering in over five years. Fans were further stunned to see the return of former vocalist Unique Salonga, marking a full-circle moment for the iconic group.
Dropped without prior notice, “Aura” comes with a visually striking music video featuring all four original members — Unique, bassist Zild Benitez, lead guitarist Blaster Silonga, and drummer Badjao de Castro. The video, shot on a sunlit hill under a bright sky, radiates the warmth and nostalgia that longtime fans have yearned for since the band’s hiatus.
Unique, who left the band in 2018 to pursue a solo career, appears harmoniously reconnected with his former bandmates in the video, symbolizing a long-awaited reunion. The lyrics of “Aura,” especially the chorus — “Tingnan natin nang husto ang makulay kong mundo…yayakapin nang buo, ikaw pa rin ang hahanapin” — hint at introspection, emotional renewal, and the enduring bond between the members.
IVOS was originally formed by Allan Mitchell “Daddy A” Silonga, who brought together the sons of his fellow musicians to create the group. They quickly gained a cult following with songs like “Ilaw sa Daan,” “Hey Barbara,” and “Where Have You Been, My Disco?” Their breakout hit “Mundo” became a generational anthem, securing their place in the local music scene.
Following Unique’s departure, the remaining trio released their debut album ClapClapClap! in 2019. The album showcased their versatility with tracks like “Come Inside of My Heart,” “Bata, Dahan-Dahan,” and “In My Prison.” Collaborations with artists like Rico Blanco soon followed, along with fan favorites such as “Nagbabalik,” “Ang Pinagmulan,” and “Sariling Multo (Sa Panaginip),” before the band went on hiatus in 2020.
The surprise release of “Aura” signals a promising new chapter for IVOS, now seemingly reunited. While no official announcements have been made regarding a full-fledged comeback tour or album, the song alone has reignited hope and excitement among fans who have waited years to see the band together again.
