In the following days, an overwhelming sadness enveloped our fellow countrymen and fans following the passing of one of the finest reggae singers, Kokoi Baldo. His untimely death resulted from an accident that occurred just a few days ago.
Kokoi Baldo’s name gained prominence after he participated in “The Voice Philippines,” where he became the first runner-up under the guidance of Sarah Geronimo. Here, Kokoi showcased his excellence, with his soulful husky voice perfectly complementing the reggae songs he performed. His performance created an unforgettable scene, with the coaches dancing and competing to be chosen by Kokoi. Ultimately, Sarah Geronimo was chosen as Kokoi’s coach.
After the competition, Kokoi’s gigs continued, taking him to various places, especially in his hometown of Bacolod, where he started and where his family is based. However, on December 8, 2023, tragic news shocked his fans as he met an accident, being run over by a truck carrying sugarcane while heading home from a gig.
While mourning, Kokoi’s family organized a public viewing in their place at Country Homes Subdivision in Bacolod City. The outpouring of love and support from his fans persists, including the various tributes and fundraising events held in honor of Kokoi Baldo.
On Kokoi Baldo’s official Facebook account, Alon Pedro, the remarkable talent of his son Pedro was highlighted as he sang “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” alongside his father Kokoi playing the guitar. The child’s prowess in singing is evident, even at his young age. Netizens couldn’t help but admire this young talent, and according to Kokoi himself, Pedro is already joining him in his gigs.
Despite Kokoi’s departure, a time will come when his name will once again open doors in the music industry, and this time it will be through his son Pedro – the surging wave carrying his musical legacy.
