On Tuesday night, February 25, 2025, Kris Aquino, the Philippines’ “Queen of All Media,” made a heartfelt return to the public eye at PeopleAsia magazine’s “People of the Year 2025” awards ceremony. The event, which coincided with the anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, marked Aquino’s first public appearance since being diagnosed with multiple autoimmune diseases.

Aquino attended the event to support her close friend, renowned fashion designer Michael Leyva, who was among the evening’s honorees. In an Instagram Reel posted by PeopleAsia, she admitted to being unaware of the exact date, saying, “I actually thought today is the 24th, tomorrow pa’ yung 25.” She added, “Michael was the one who told me. So, sabi ko, ‘Perfect! What a perfect coming out.'”
Wearing a vibrant yellow top paired with a floral skirt and a pink blazer, Aquino completed her ensemble with a yellow face mask and pink eyeglasses. Her outfit not only showcased her signature style but also symbolized her enduring resilience.
During her speech, Aquino spoke warmly about Leyva, emphasizing his unwavering support. “There are people who would say ‘I’ll be there for you,’ or ‘maaasahan mo ako,’ but Michael has proven so many times, and in so many ways,” she shared. Her presence at the event highlighted the strength of their friendship and her deep appreciation for his loyalty.
Earlier this month, Aquino revealed that she is now battling seven autoimmune diseases. Her health struggles have been ongoing, beginning with her diagnosis of chronic spontaneous urticaria in 2018. By June 2022, she disclosed having eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis, prompting her to seek medical treatment in the United States. Despite these challenges, she returned to the Philippines in September 2024 to continue her treatment closer to home. In February 2025, she was further diagnosed with fibromyalgia, adding to her complex medical condition.
Aquino did not attend the awards ceremony alone. She was accompanied by her son, Bimby, as well as her doctor and three nurses, ensuring that her health was closely monitored throughout the night. Her presence at the event was met with admiration and a warm reception from attendees, who lauded her strength and perseverance.
The “People of the Year 2025” awards night was a celebration of resilience, friendship, and inspiration. Aquino’s appearance served as a powerful reminder of the importance of support systems in overcoming life’s obstacles, reinforcing her status as a beloved figure in the Philippine entertainment industry.
