A Historic Homecoming in Makati

This year’s parade carried a special significance as it marked the first time Makati City served as the official host. Mayor Nancy Binay warmly welcomed the festivities, expressing her gratitude to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) for choosing the city. Standing before the Makati City Hall Old Building, she reaffirmed her commitment to the local film industry, encouraging the public to rediscover the joy of watching Filipino films on the big screen.

MMDA Chairman and MMFF Overall Chairman Atty. Don Artes echoed this sentiment during the opening ceremonies. He urged the public to support all eight official entries, highlighting the festival’s evolution and the diverse range of genres—from horror and romance to poignant dramas—designed to captivate a modern audience.

Star Power and Festive Floats

As the sun began to set on Friday afternoon, the atmosphere turned electric. Elaborately designed, movie-themed floats began their procession, each a mobile stage for the nation’s biggest stars. The air was filled with the deafening cheers of spectators who lined the streets, waving banners and capturing every moment on their mobile phones.

The 2025 star-studded lineup featured a “who’s who” of Philippine entertainment, including:

  • Vice Ganda, Piolo Pascual, and Angelica Panganiban
  • Solenn Heussaff, Zanjoe Marudo, and Carla Abellana
  • Romnick Sarmenta, Janice de Belen, and Lorna Tolentino
  • Rico Blanco and Rica Peralejo
  • Rising stars Zaijian Jaranilla, Bianca de Vera, and Will Ashley

From their respective floats, the actors personally invited the crowds to catch their films starting on Christmas Day, December 25. This year’s official entries include: “Call Me Mother,” “Rekonek,” “Manila’s Finest,” “Shake, Rattle & Roll: Evil Origins,” “I’m Perfect,” “Love You So Bad,” “Unmarry,” and “Bar Boys: After School.”

Beyond the Streets: The Music Fest

The celebration didn’t end with the parade. The festivities moved to the Circuit Makati Open Park for a high-octane Music Fest. Hosted by Enchong Dee and Jervi Wrightson, the event featured powerhouse performances from Bamboo, Angeline Quinto, and BGYO, ensuring the “cheerful vibe” lasted well into the night.

Beyond the glitz and glamour, the MMFF remains a beacon of hope for the industry. Proceeds from the festival continue to support vital organizations such as Mowelfund, the Film Academy of the Philippines, and the Motion Picture Anti-Film Piracy Council, ensuring that the “New Era” of Philippine cinema is as sustainable as it is spectacular.
