One of the basic things that drivers must have regardless which country they are in is a driver’s license or a permit to drive a vehicle. In the Philippines, you can obtain it from the Land Transportation Office or more commonly called LTO.

The LTO offers two(2) types of license to the public aside from the student permit. They are the professional and the non-professional driver’s license.

Holders of non-professional driver’s license are allowed to drive a vehicle or a motorcycle with a gross weight that is less than 4500 kilograms.

The list of requirements and the eligibility qualifications set under the professional and the non-professional license may differ.

Professional License

Eligibility Qualifications:

The applicant must:

  • be not younger than 18 years of age
  • be able to read and write in Filipino, English, or any dialect applicable
  • be fit physically and mentally to drive a vehicle
  • not have been charged for at least two(2) accounts of reckless driving
  • a holder of valid Student Permit for RC 1, 2, 4, and 6
  • a holder of valid Non-Professional License for RC 3, 5, 7, and 8

Requirements:

  • Fully-Accomplished Application for Driver’s License Form or ADL
  • Medical Certificate
  • NBI Clearance
  • PNP Clearance

Non-Professional License

Eligibility Qualifications:

The applicant must:

  • be not less than 18 years of age
  • be able to read and write in Filipino, English, or any dialect applicable
  • be fit physically and mentally to drive a vehicle
  • be a holder of a valid Student Permit

Requirements:

  • Fully-Accomplished Application for Driver’s License (ADL)
  • valid Student Permit
  • Medical Certificate
