Malaysia Bans Filipinos Due To “Serious Concerns” Over COVID-19
MALAYSIA BANS FILIPINOS – Due to the rising cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines, Malaysia decided to bar long-term pass holders from the country.
Among the countries Malaysia had banned are India and Indonesia due to “serious concerns over the recent increase in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases”. According to an article from Philstar, the ban came amid DFA Secretary Teodoro Locsin’s announcement of reviving a DFA office dedicated to claiming Sabah.
Meanwhile, the new travel ban were also imposed on Filipinos entering Malaysia as well as those boarding from Qatar Airways. Along with this, previous info regarding the travel restrictions on other countries and also remained the same.
As per the article, Malaysia confirmed “imported COVID-19 cases” from travelers from the “Philippines, India, and Indonesia”. Because of this, Filipino long-term pass holders, including permanent residents, Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) pass holders.
Along with this, expatriates with professional visit passes (PVP), resident pass holders, spouse visa holders (including children) and students have also been included in the travel ban.
However, the immigration officials from Malaysia may allow exceptions on compassionate grounds and emergencies. Likewise, diplomats and their dependents were also exempted from the travel ban as long as they’re given prior approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Immigration Department of Malaysia.
