Marikina Regional Trial Court Branch 273 sided with the complaint of Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon, collectively known as TVJ, against Television and Production Exponents TAPE, Inc. and GMA Network, Inc. According to the decision, “The counterclaim of defendants TAPE and GMA are hereby dismissed for lack of merit.”
The issue surrounding the ownership of the “Eat Bulaga!” program, produced by TAPE, Inc. and aired on GMA Network, has been circulating for quite some time. TVJ filed their complaint, alleging improper treatment, failure to provide the rightful share of earnings, and other issues related to their participation in the said program.
Despite the lengthy legal process, TVJ succeeded in upholding their rights. In a Facebook live session that served as a platform to share the good news, Vic Sotto stated, “In short, Eat Bulaga is truly ours!”
“Eat Bulaga!” and TVJ have long been integral parts of television. Despite changes in the showbiz industry, the program remains a successful variety show that has become a part of the daily lives of many Filipinos.
This triumph is not only a victory for TVJ but also for their fans who have long supported their projects. Beyond this success, it sends a clear message to the entertainment industry that integrity and proper treatment of workers should be defended and respected.
By taking TVJ’s side, the court highlights the importance of justice and recognition of proper performance in agreements within the television industry. This decision opens the door to a meticulous examination of contracts and relationships between workers and companies in the showbiz industry.
