Three Pinoy animators of Pixar worked in the ‘Incredibles 2’
‘Incredibles 2’, the sequel of Pixar’s ‘The Incredibles’ in 2004, has featured three Filipino animators who worked for the famous animation company.
It only goes to show that Pinoys can really make it is in the international entertainment scene even if their works of art are just the ones being seen.
Who are these three lucky Pinoy animators of Pixar? Get to know them.
Nelson “Rey” Bohol
He was the one responsible in adding “bahah kubo” in the aquarium scene in ‘Finding Nemo’. The animator from Pangdan, Hinabangan, Samar had already worked with the first Incredibles movie back in 2004, based on the article published in GMA Entertainment.
Aside from that, his works were also featured in ‘Inside Out’ and ‘Monster University’.
Nelson started in Pixar in 2000 and his inspiration was his love for watching cartoons since he was a kid.
When asked what his biggest contribution in ‘Incredibles 2’ was, the Pinoy animator said that it was the design of the new Parr home, the DevTech Building, the Incrediwagon and a lot of interiors.
That is because he graduated with a degree in Architecture in Manuel L. Quezon University, so designing that kind of things are just a piece of cake for him.
Bobby Rubio
He is a story artist and his main responsibility in ‘The incredibles’ sequel was to take the script and draw the visuals for the animation team to later animate to.
Bobby said that sometimes they were asked to come up with scenarios and action sequences which will be later own showed to the director and sometimes the latter will get inspiration from their work and used them in the film.
When the Pinoy animator from Ilocos Norte was asked his biggest contribution in the film, he said that it was a scene that he story-boarded where Bob and the kids are at a restaurant and then drama and comedy ensues.
He used to work with Disney animation but he became a big fan of ‘The Incredible’ and that inspired him to apply for Pixar.
Paul Abadilla
He was also inspired by the prequel of ‘Incredibles 2’, that is why he is in Pixar now as an animator.
“The first ‘Incredibles’ definitely had a role in inspiring me to work in the animation industry. I was in college when I watched the first film in theaters, and I remember just being at the edge of my seat, cheering, and kicking the air from excitement during the ‘100-mile Dash’ sequence. ‘The Incredibles’ deeply moved me as an aspiring artist, and made me hungrier in my quest to be a part of that film-making process at Pixar,” the Pinoy animator from Manila shared.
Mainly, his work concentrated in set designing. Paul, who graduated at San Jose State University with a BFA in Animation and Illustration, can’t point out a single scene that he can call his favorite but instead he said that he is so overwhelmed upon seeing the development of the set and he is excited that everyone will see it, based on the article.
