In an interview with PUSH, Raymond Bagatsing, one of the stars in an upcoming film “Love Is Love”, revealed that he already knew about netizens who questioned his gender.
“Matagal nang pinagdududahan ang gender ko. Ever since that I did Ballet Philippines, I dance for Ballet, modern ballet, ang mga choices ko would always question my gender,” he admitted when asked if netizens questioned his gender. “But I don’t think I can be questioned because I’m also a man’s man. I’m a martial artist, I do a lot of martial things but I also do a lot of feminine things. I love art, I love painting, I love writing, poetry – those are feminine things.”
Raymond added, “Pag nagbigay tayo ng kategorya, effeminate yan, macho yan. Hindi pupwede, kasi tayo’y pinanganak na may nanay at tatay. Ang nanay mo ay effeminate, lilipat sa yo yan kahit lalaki ka. Yung love ng nanay mo maita-transfer sa yo yan at ang personality mo ay hindi monotonous, hindi one sided at ang masculinity ng tatay mo lilipat sa yo yan.”
When asked about his gender, Raymond admitted that he didn’t even know his gender either.
“I don’t know. Mahirap magsalita ng tapos, eh. All I know is I appreciate everyone, I appreciate people, human being, feelings, I appreciate love,” he answered. “Matagal ko ng tinatanong ‘yan, being an artist kasi I’m very close to a lot of gay people, actually to my best friends. I’m very close to men, macho alike. I’m very close to a lot of girls, platonic or it could be in a relationship, it doesn’t really matter.”
He even asked himself and made his mind puzzled out of confusion. Yet, he said that he was not confused about his gender.
“I don’t think I’m confused, I just don’t like myself a category or I don’t like to limit myself who I am, because marami pang growth as a human being. Hindi pa tapos ang buhay ko, may bukas pa, may next week pa, so, I don’t know what to discover. Life for me is a discovery, it’s a journey, hindi ko puwedeng isarado at sabihin sa madla na ito lang ako kasi baka bukas may madagdag sa akin o may mabawasan sa akin,” he said. “I’m not confused. I’m confused by many things, pero with that I’m not, I’m just me. So, I don’t know who I will be tomorrow, I don’t know next year.”
