The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) released its updated weather forecast for January 9, 2025. The prevailing weather systems include the Shear Line, which is affecting the eastern sections of Southern Luzon and Visayas, and the Northeast Monsoon, which continues to impact Northern and Central Luzon.
Forecast Weather Conditions
Shear Line-affected Areas
Regions affected by the Shear Line include the Visayas, Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, Quezon, and Dinagat Islands. These areas will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms. Moderate to heavy rainfall, with occasional intense rains, poses risks of flash floods and landslides.
Northeast Monsoon-affected Areas
The Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Central Luzon will see cloudy skies with rains caused by the Northeast Monsoon. These areas should remain vigilant against possible flash floods and landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains, with no significant weather impact anticipated.
Localized Thunderstorms in Mindanao
The rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorms in these areas may lead to localized flash floods or landslides.
