During the recent Drag Queen performance in Makati, where she sang Taylor Swift’s song “Look What You Made Me Do,” criticism continued to arise due to her portrayal resembling Jesus Christ. Pura Luka Vega’s performance led to various criticisms and legal cases she is currently facing, wherein she portrayed Jesus Christ and danced to a remix of the Catholic prayer “Ama Namin.” Despite Pura Luka Vega’s different interpretation, it wasn’t widely accepted and was considered disrespectful to the religion and the Lord. Up to now, Pura hasn’t fully explained her interpretation of the performance.

In the past, 12 Philippine cities had already declared her as persona non grata, but this number increased after Pura challenged, “Simple lang naman ang masasabi ko, lahat tayo makasalanan tama? Hindi tayo perpekto tama? Para sa mga ibang lugar na gusto pa mag persona jan, dagdagan nyo pa. Pakialam ko sa separation ng Church at ng State. Ayun lamang po. Thank you po,” Pura said.

Today, Bohol and Lucena declared Pura as persona non grata and passed a resolution pursuant to the said declaration, citing the portrayal of the drag artist as disrespectful. We still don’t know the outcome of Pura’s ongoing issues and we continue to await her next actions and reactions regarding this matter.
