Pura Luka Vega is facing a new case after her performance as the Drag queen ‘Ama Namin’ (Our Father) became controversial. In this performance, she dressed as Jesus Nazareno and danced to a remix of the ‘Ama Namin’ song, a Catholic church hymn. He received numerous criticisms and was declared persona non grata in various places.
What Pura allegedly did was seen as a sacrilege against the Lord and an affront to the faith of many, especially Catholics. Many towns and cities, including Manila and Cebu, have declared her persona non grata.
Pura is facing another case after a group called ‘Hijos del Nazareno,’ who assist in the annual Traslacion of the Black Nazarene, went to the Manila City Hall. The group expressed anger at Pura’s imitation of the image of the Black Nazarene. One of the complaints against Pura is a violation of Article 201 (2) of the Revised Penal Code, which pertains to immoral doctrines, obscene publications, exhibitions, and indecent shows. They also filed a violation of the Cybercrime Prevention Act against her for using various social media platforms.
Despite this, the group stated, “Sasamahan pa ho namin siya sa simabahan ng Quiapo para makausap ang mga pari sa harap mismo ng ating mahal na senor ay humingi ng tawad, ay syempre. Sino naman ho kami para hindi patawarin”
Wherever Pura’s current situation leads, we will continue to watch and update our followers.”
