Richard Poon and his wife Maricar Reyes declared support to Davao City Mayor and presidential front-runner Rodrigo Duterte in the May 2016 elections.
In a blog post he published on Facebook, Richard Poon and Maricar Reyes revealed reasons why he to choose to support Duterte over other presidential candidates.
Here’s what Richard Poon noted in a blog post:
“Many say their reasons to pick a presidentiable are: diplomacy, economic growth/business interests, strategic planning/platforms, and a gazillion other VALID REASONS.”
“IF YOUR PRIMARY REASON to elect a President is ECONOMIC/BUSINESS INTERESTS and DIPLOMACY, Mar Roxas should be a good, safe bet.”
“But ABOVE all these important elements, I believe the PRIMARY ROLE of government is to RESTRAIN EVIL, PROMOTE SOCIAL ORDER, and GIVE JUSTICE to its people.—this belief is fuelled heavily by writings of Chuck Colson—a Christian leader that served in the White House (whom Ninoy Aquino sought as spiritual mentor).”
The 42-year-old Filipino singer with Chinese decent also admitted in the blog post that he earlier doubted to give full support to the PDP-Laban standard-bearer because of his “berdugo” tag.
Richard Poon also gave his reaction upon the “cleansing” within 3 to 6 months that Duterte wanted to implement if he wins as president.
In the said article, Maricar Reyes also gave her message of support to the 71-year-old politician as she quoted saying, “I would rather have FAITH in what Duterte has accomplished, HOPE in what he CAN do, than SETTLE for his opponents in FEAR of the ‘monster’ he ‘could’ become. (And some say he already IS.)”
