In a recent interview with Ogie Diaz, Rosmar Tan-Pamulaklakin and Rendon Labador of Team Malakas addressed the controversies surrounding their charity event in Coron, Palawan. Their visit, intended as a benevolent gesture, turned contentious due to a series of unforeseen issues that arose during their stay.
Rosmar clarified that their team spent three days conducting charity work in Coron, during which they distributed numerous blessings to the local community. However, they did not anticipate the overwhelming number of people who would show up on the final day. This surge in attendance led to complications, as many people expected to receive aid but did not.
“Ang sakit lang po sa feeling na ganu’n po ‘yung feedback pa sa amin,” Rosmar expressed, highlighting the emotional toll of the negative feedback they received. She explained that despite their significant contributions, the situation’s chaotic conclusion resulted in dissatisfaction among some of the locals. Rosmar further noted, “Okay lang po sa’ming ma-bash ng normal na tao for example ng mga nandon, ang medyo nakasakit lang po yung parang nagsalita pa po is parang staff pa ng munisipyo,” referencing the disheartening reaction from a municipal staff member who they had expected to assist in managing the crowd’s expectations.
The controversy escalated when a post by a municipal staff member went viral, documenting a confrontation that Rendon himself posted. This added fuel to the fire, further amplifying the incident’s reach and the backlash faced by Team Malakas.
Reflecting on the event, Rosmar admitted her regret over the incident. “Sa totoo po pinagsisihan ko po talaga. Nadala lang po ng pagod, puyat tapos parang ganun po yung nabasa ko tapos plus points pa po na staff po ng munisipyo. Doon po talaga ako nasaktan. Ano lang din po ako sa bugso ng damdamin,” she explained, acknowledging that exhaustion and emotions influenced her reactions at the time.
Despite the setbacks and the intense scrutiny they faced, Rosmar expressed a desire to return to Palawan. She hoped for another opportunity to extend their help and make amends for the misunderstandings that occurred. Her earnest wish is to be given a chance to demonstrate their genuine intent and continue their charitable efforts without the hindrance of past missteps.
The interview sheds light on the complexities and challenges of organizing large-scale charity events, especially in remote areas where logistical issues can arise unexpectedly. It also underscores the importance of clear communication and the support of local authorities in ensuring the success and smooth execution of such endeavors.
Rosmar and Rendon’s experience in Coron serves as a learning moment for all involved in charitable work, emphasizing the need for preparedness, understanding, and empathy in addressing community needs and managing expectations.
