Last October, Sony Music announced that the popular Filipino pop group SB19 might enter the 2024 Grammy Awards. Their hit song “Gento” was submitted for consideration in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category. Sony Music Philippines, SB19’s record label, confirmed the approval of “Gento” as an entry and actively promoted its nomination through “For Your Consideration (FYC)” posts on social media.
Despite SB19 being recognized by Forbes magazine as the “first Filipino band to reach the World Digital Song Sales chart,” the Grammy nomination list did not include SB19 in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category. The nominated entries in that category were as follows:
- Labrinth Featuring Billie Eilish – Never Felt So Alone
- Lana Del Rey Featuring Jon Batiste – Candy Necklace
- Miley Cyrus Featuring Brandi Carlile – Thousand Miles
- SZA Featuring Phoebe Bridgers – Ghost in the Machine
- Taylor Swift Featuring Ice Spice – Karma
As a Filipino hopeful for SB19’s recognition on prestigious global platforms, questions arise as to why our beloved group SB19 is absent from the list. We will eagerly await further reports on what transpired during the nomination process for the group.
