In an emotional revelation on the latest episode of “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” aired on Monday, June 17, actress Teresa Loyzaga shared the challenging decision she made to admit her son, Diego Loyzaga, into a rehabilitation facility.
“Boy, to be honest, I did ask him for his permission to speak about it. I think the people do not know that I put him into rehab,” Teresa confessed during the interview.
Teresa recounted the heart-wrenching experience, saying, “There was a part of me that died. But I wanted my son to live. So I had to put him to rehab.” As a mother, she found it incredibly difficult to make that decision for Diego, especially since he initially misunderstood her intentions.
“Because he wasn’t himself then. We have to understand that our loved ones, when they’re addicted to drugs when you talk to them and they’re disrespectful, that’s not them. It’s the drugs,” Teresa explained, emphasizing the destructive impact of substance abuse on a person’s behavior and relationships.
Reflecting on the aftermath of Diego’s rehabilitation, Teresa shared that she witnessed a significant transformation in her son once he overcame his addiction. “When all that was gone, my son came back. Then he understood,” she said. Despite not being allowed to see each other during his treatment, Teresa revealed that she frequently visited him in secret, maintaining her support from afar. “He didn’t know that I would visit him often even though we weren’t allowed to see each other,” she added.
Diego Loyzaga had previously opened up about his rehabilitation experience in an interview with Ultimate Multimedia Star Toni Gonzaga in November 2023. His candid discussion about his struggles and recovery shed light on the challenges faced by individuals battling addiction and the crucial role of family support in their journey toward healing.
Teresa’s decision to speak publicly about Diego’s rehabilitation highlights the importance of addressing substance abuse issues openly and without stigma. Her story resonates with many families dealing with similar struggles, offering a message of hope and resilience. By sharing their experience, Teresa and Diego aim to raise awareness about the realities of addiction and the critical need for compassionate intervention and support.
In a society where addiction often carries a heavy stigma, Teresa Loyzaga’s bravery in discussing her son’s journey serves as a powerful reminder of the strength and love required to help a loved one through recovery. Her story is a testament to the enduring bond between a mother and her child, and the profound impact of unconditional love and support in overcoming life’s most difficult challenges.
