Many of us haven’t heard about Diether Ocampo for a long time, but before we revisit the story of the life of this former Heartthrob, let’s first learn about some important aspects of his career and life.
Diether Pascual Ocampo was born on July 19, 1973, in Aniban, Bacoor, Cavite, where he also studied. He graduated from De La Salle University-Dasmariñas. Diether has a mixed heritage of German, Spanish, and Chinese.
He began as a dancer before being discovered by ABS-CBN in the mid-1990s. He was a part of a band called “Blow,” where he was known as ‘Capt. Mongrel.’ In 2001, he became the executive producer for The Pin-Ups’ debut album titled “Hello Pain,” which allowed the band to become the first Filipino-based band to sign with a U.S. label.
Ocampo started his career with ABS-CBN and was nurtured by Star Magic, led by Johnny Manahan. He auditioned for ABS-CBN’s talent search in 1995. A year and a half later, he became a member of Star Circle Batch II. We first saw him in the teen program adaptation “Ang TV.” He has been actively involved in charitable work through his K.I.D.S. (Kabataan Inyong Dapat Suportahan) Foundation, which helps underprivileged children in Metro Manila.
In 2016, he starred in the series “Bakit Manipis ang Ulap?” on TV5, alongside Cesar Montano and Claudine Barretto. In 2017, after a brief hiatus from showbiz, Ocampo returned to the industry and is now a freelancer.
In a delightful turn of events, Diether was interviewed by the renowned news anchor Korina Sanchez Roxas after they met at a previous ABS-CBN Ball. Following that meeting, Korina decided to interview Diether on her show on Net25, titled “Korina Interview.”
Today, he is a Captain in the Philippine Coast Guard after enlisting in 2014. According to him, his showbiz career began after he was discovered in a bar where he worked as a bartender by a talent scout. From there, he became a part of showbiz and joined the group “The Hunks” along with other well-known actors like Piolo Pascual, Jericho Rosales, Carlos Agassi, and Bernard Palanca in the early 2000s. They were the heartthrobs of that time. However, at present, Diether is a Captain in the Coast Guard, a path quite different from the world of showbiz.
Despite the challenges and trials he faced in his life and the showbiz industry, Diether has shared the stories and lessons he’s learned, including his love life, in an interview with Korina Sanchez Roxas, which you can watch in the link provided at the end of this article.
This shows that Diether Ocampo’s life is full of growth and change, and he continues to inspire others through his experiences and dedication to helping not only in the realm of showbiz but also in serving the country as a Captain in the Philippine Coast Guard.
