Bobby Garcia, a multi-awarded theater director and producer, has passed away at the age of 55. His family confirmed the news to ABS-CBN News through his close friends, Boy Abunda and Bettina Aspillaga. Abunda also shared the heartbreaking announcement on his afternoon program earlier today.
Garcia was a towering figure in the world of theater, known for his visionary work and unwavering dedication to the craft. As the founder of Atlantis Productions, one of Asia’s premier theater companies, Garcia directed and produced over 50 plays and musicals. His work transcended borders, bringing his creative genius to stages in Canada, Asia, and beyond. Many of the productions he helmed were recognized with prestigious nominations, including nods from the Tony Awards, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle.
Among his many achievements, Garcia co-produced the acclaimed Broadway musical “Here Lies Love,” which earned four Tony nominations. His exceptional contributions to theater were also celebrated in the Philippines, where he was a recipient of three Aliw Awards. In recognition of his lasting impact on the performing arts, he was inducted into the Aliw Awards Hall of Fame.
Garcia’s final directorial project, “Request sa Radyo,” showcased his enduring passion for storytelling and his ability to bring together stellar talent.
