Veteran actor and TV host Vic Sotto remains calm and composed amid the ongoing controversy involving the 19 counts of cyber libel he filed against filmmaker Daryl Yap.
During a media launch for his latest endorsement on Tuesday, Sotto exuded his trademark relaxed demeanor. When asked about his current state of mind, he said, “I’m good, I’m relaxed, just going with the flow. Basta ako naman eh I trust in God.”
The case stems from a teaser video for Yap’s film “The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma,” which Sotto claims maligns his reputation. However, due to a gag order issued by the Marikina Regional Trial Court, both parties have been prohibited from discussing details of the case publicly.
Despite this legal hurdle, Sotto is unfazed. “‘Cause I have a clean conscience. Malinis ang pakiramdam ko. Wala namang dapat ika-worry. So, mai-stress ka lang pagka inisip mo eh,” he told reporters.
Sotto shared how he copes with challenges in his more-than-five-decade career, stating, “Eh di daanan mo lang nang daanan. Isa lang naman ang pupuntahan natin. Basta diretso ang daan. ‘Yun ang importante. Bawal ‘yung mga paliku-liko.”
The seasoned actor also expressed gratitude for his unwavering support from fans, family, and close friends, including his long-time collaborators Joey de Leon and his brother Tito Sotto. “Of course, they are all our support (for me). Kahit anong mangyari, sama-sama kami,” he said.
When asked if he was open to settling the matter out of court, Sotto politely declined to comment, citing the gag order. “I cannot talk about that, sorry,” he stated.
While Sotto avoided discussing the case further, the media praised his openness in answering questions unrelated to the legal issue. His optimism and faith reinforced his image as a seasoned professional who has weathered many storms.
