This film was directed by a Filipino-American director Diane Paragas.
Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA) announced Thursday that the company received worldwide rights to the Filipino movie “Yellow Rose”. The Philippines were being excluded from the said rights.
“‘Yellow Rose’ has been a labor of passion for over 15 years and I’m thrilled that we can now share this very relevant story with the world,” according to Diane Paragas, a Filipino-American director. “We have the added honor of representing the real experiences of Filipino-Americans, Asian-Americans and all immigrants seeking a better life in America.“
The casts in this film were Princess Punzalan, Dale Watson, Gustavo Gomez, Libby Villari, Liam Booth, 2-time Tony Award nominee Eva Noblezada, and Tony Award winner Lea Salonga. The film featured original songs that were written and composed by Watson, Paragas, Noblezada and Thia Megia.
According to SPWA, this film was the first Filipino film received by Sony for its movie release in the United States.
The Synopsis
The film was focused on the story of Rose, an undocumented Filipino girl, who dreamed of one day leaving her town in Texas in order for her to pursue her aspirations in country music.
Awards Received
This film was premiered at Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival wherein the film was awarded as the “Grand Jury Award”. Noblezada received the “Breakthrough Performance” award during the said festival.
The film also awarded on the following awards: “Jury Award” in Bentonville Film Festival 2019; “Comcast Narrative Award” in CAAMFEST 2019; “Best Narrative Feature (US Cinema) Award” and “Audience Award Best Feature” in Urbanworld 2019; and an official selection for the 42nd Asian American International Film Festival.
