The victim of Zika infection is 22-years-old and 19 weeks pregnant but no complications have been monitored to her pregnancy so far.
The Philippines has recorded its first case of pregnant woman infected with Zika Virus, confirmed by Department of Health (DOH) Sec. Paulyn Ubial.
According to Sec. Ubial, the Zika positive pregnant woman is a 22-year-old, 19 weeks pregnant native of Cebu.
Based on the victim’s ultrasound, no complications have been recorded in the woman’s pregnancy but according to the DOH, they will closely monitor until the woman gives birth.
DOH spokesman Dr. Eric Tayag said, they are hoping that there will be no complications because of there are any, it might cause the baby the condition called microcephaly or the size of the head is smaller than the usual.
“The initial results of the ultrasound does not detect any abnormalities at this time so we are going to monitor her progress for the entire duration of her pregnancy and we hope that there will be no complications”, said Dr. Tayag.
