The lady senators asks for four more hearings on EJK but the Senate committee on Justice chair refuses to agree.
Senator Leila de Lima is asking the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights to conduct up to four more hearings on extrajudicial killings (EJKs) before putting it to a close.
De Lima’s appeal followed after the committee chairman, Senator Richard Gordon, announced that he will be releasing the report within the week or before they will have a break for the All Souls Day.
According to Senator De Lima, it is yet premature for Senator Gordon to close the investigation because there are still a lot witnesses who have not yet given their testimonies.
These invited witnesses include the relatives of the drug personalities who were allegedly killed even without fighting back or posing threat against the lives of the arresting authorities.
“If it were up to me, would seek a few more hearings”, De Lima told the members of the media. “It was premature to terminate the proceedings and it is even more premature to say there’s no evidence that the killings are state-sponsored because several aspects could still be looked into”, she added.
