The rehabilitation aims to address another problem which mushroomed after the government’s campaign against illegal drugs has drawn effectiveness.
The Department of Health (DOH) will construct five new rehabilitation centers in different parts of the country.
In the budget hearing of the DOH, Health Sec. Paulyn Jean Ubial said that they will allocate P3 billion to fund the construction of the rehabilitation centers.
Ubial has told the House Appropriations Committee that the amount allocated for 2017 is five times bigger than this year’s P600 million.
“The huge increase is intended to accommodate the increasing number of drug users who are surrendering to the police”.
The centers shall accommodate the drug personalities who have surrendered, and continue t increase in number, to the Philippine National Police (PNP) in line with the government’s massive campaign against illegal drugs.
As of now, there are 13 rehabilitation centers across the country which are being facilitated by the DOH.
The agency plans to construct two additional centers in Luzon, one is Southern Luzon, one in Visayas and another in Mindanao.
