Donnie “Ahas” Nietes Maintains WBO Inter-continental Flyweight Belt

Nietes also remains to be the longest-reigning Filipino world boxing champion.

Donnie “Ahas” Nietes once again proved the Filipino might in the field of boxing having won against a veteran boxer in the Pinoy Pride 38 held at Stabhub Center in Carson, California.

Nietes, who is the longest-reigning Filipino world boxing champion, won over Mexican Edgar Sosa via unanimous decision with a score 120-108.

According to Nietes, in the first round of the fight, he just observed and studied the style of Sosa until he has strategized how to ensure victory over the 37-year-old Mexican boxer.

The 34-year-old native of Murcia, Negros Occidental said that he had easily familiarized Sosa’s motion but he intentionally did not take their match in a hurry.

In the second round, Sosa had a state of the Filipino boxing champion’s punches and to maintain distance, Nietes gave his opponent jabs and consecutive right straights and finished with 1-2 combinations.

Out of his excitement to knock Sosa out, Nietes gave him an unforgettable left uppercut.

Hindi ako nagmamadali na i-knockout si Sosa, naghihintay ako ng timing na I-tumba siya, pero ang tibay din”, said Nietes.

(I was not in a hurry to knock Sosa out, I was waiting for a good timing to knock him down but he was also strong.)
