Duterte apologized to the Jewish community for comparing his anti-drug campaign to the genocide by Hitler.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte apologized to the Jewish community on Sunday, October 2, for comparing himself to Nazi leader, Adolf Hitler, saying he was only trying to hit back to the critics of his war against illegal drugs.
Duterte apologized “profoundly and deeply” to the Jews and explained that his reference to the Holocaust while discussing the anti-drug war of his leadership was only to slam his campaign’s critics.
The apology was made before the crowd of Bacolod City in Negros Occidental province where the chief executive was invited to lead the opening of the 37th Masskara Festival celebration on late Sunday afternoon.
After Duterte apologized, he said that he recognized the comments made last Friday that his remarks caused outrage among the Jewish communities around the world, but he insisted that his mention of Hitler was to show how opponents had sought to portray him.
