Duterte Is Convinced By CIDG Version Of Mayor Espinosa’s Death

President Duterte downplayed the insinuations of an overkill by the CIDG in the operation that caused Mayor Espinosa’s death inside the Leyte Provincial Jail.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte stands by the version of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) under the Philippine National Police (PNP) in connection to the death of Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. and his fellow detainee inside the jail.

Before dawn of Saturday, Mayor Espinosa and Raul Yap, a detainee in the adjacent jail cell, were killed in the supposed shootout with the CIDG who were serving a search warrant to the chief executive who was detained inside the Leyte Provincial Jail.

Raul Yap was detained because of illegal drugs charges filed against him.

The President downplayed the insinuations that there was an overkill on the part of the CIDG and maintained that he believes in the police version that Espinosa engaged in a gun battle against the officers.
