Duterte:“There can be no stopping of the momentum until I have destroyed the apparatus”

President Duterte vowed to continue the war against illegal drugs in the country and he has no plans of stopping the momentum.

Pres. Rodrigo Duterte announced on Monday that he shall not halt the momentum of war against illegal drugs in the country until he destroys the apparatus.

Duterte, in his previous statements, referred to these drug dealers and peddlers as, actually, the apparatus of drug syndicates.

In his message, Duterte emphasized that he shall not be unfazed by the criticisms amid the claims on extra-judicial killings involving personalities linked in illegal drugs.

The president said that he will be naming more judges, police officials and politicinas involved in the illegal drug trade in the coming days.

The chief executive said that he needs to destroy the drug problem during his term because it will be very difficult to do it after his six years in power. Duterte is expecting that he shall be the “kontrabida” or the villain but there is no other way to stop the cancer in the society but to be courages and firm in his stand.

“Lalabas ako dito medyo kontrabida o with stained hands, maybe soaked with blood but there is no way to stop it now,” Duterte said in his remarks during the oath taking of newly-appointed officials in Malacañang.

“I have to control the drug problem, because if I do not interdict this problem now in this generation, mahirapan na po after six years,” he further said, noting that the issue on illegal drugs have been ignored in the past that is why it has now become an epidemic.

The president is alarmed by the number of drug addicts in the country where approximately 600,000 dependents have already surfaced and surrendered to the police since July 1, Duterte’s first day in office.

The president firmly declared that he would not take poverty as an excuse in engaging in illegal drugs because he believes that addiction can bring greater problem.

“Sabihin mo mahirap lang iyan… that cannot be the excuse. Simply, I will not accept it because it would add more problems,” he said.

“Talagang pipigilan ko itong nasa sidewalk – araw, gabi nandiyan iyan, peddling harap-harapan. Until I shall have destroyed them, we can never, never have peace in our land,” the President said.
