The House Speaker admitted that he is one of those who give value to the dignity and rights of the LGBT community.
House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez is now starting to draft the measure pushing to legalize same-sex marriage in the Philippines and said that he will sponsor it himself.
House Speaker Alvarez admitted that he is one of those who give value to the dignity and rights of the LGBT community.
“I am preparing a draft bill. The Constitution provides for it. Why would you get in the way of happiness? I stand with the members of the LGBT in this”, House Speaker Alvarez said.
“I will sponsor it. If you look at the Constitution, there is a provision guaranteeing happiness for the Filipinos. Why would we deprive them of that? If they are happy with that, shouldn’t we support them?”, he added.
Alvarez gave importance to the provision in the 1987 Constitution wherein it is stipulated that the “state values the dignity of every human person and guarantees full respect for human rights”.
