Longer nights will be experienced as the yuletide season nears because of the September’s fall equinox.
The Philippines can expect longer nights starting Thursday evening, September 22, because of the occurrence of September’s fall equinox.
The September’s fall equinox occurs when the sun crosses the celestial equator, an imaginary line in the sky above the equator of the Earth, changing the angle of sunlight and makes the day and night approximately the same length.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the 2016 autumnal or fall equinox would begin at 10:21 pm of September 22, based in its astronomical diary.
“This year’s autumnal equinox will occur on September 22 at 10:21 p.m.”, said PAGASA.
The equinox is a worldwide event and is one of the two yearly equinox events with the spring equinox happening in March.
It usually signals the change in season.
