A Filipina doctor from South Cotabato is regarded as the World’s Most Outstanding Orthopedic Surgeon.
A Filipina doctor is hailed as one of the world’s most outstanding orthopedic surgeon by the Lester Lowe International Society of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology (SICOT) Award held in Rome, Italy.
The province of South Cotabato is taking pride for their “kababayan” Dr. Jewel Sadiang-abay who is recently declared as one of the world’s most outstanding orthopedic surgeon, along with Dushan Thavarajah of the United Kingdom.
Dra. Sadiang-abay vied the title with other specialists from United States of America, India, Brazil and some parts of Asia and Europe.
Dra. Sadiang-abay is the first Filipina doctor to receive such commendation from an international award-giving body.
Sadiang-abay and Thavarajah received $500 each as well as free registration for the Congress to ensure their attendance to the Closing Ceremony to claim their award.
This is the 37th edition of the SICOT Orthopedic World Congress.
The SICOT returned to Italy after 80 years. In 1926, under the Presidency of Professor Vittorio Putti, then-SICO held its third Triennial Meeting in Bologna and Rome and from then on became known as SICOT by adding the “T” for Traumatology to its name, according to Francisco Falez, the Congress President of SICOT.
According to its website, the SICOT Foundation was formed in Year 1990 to manage funds donated for the purpose of helping SICOT achieve its research and educational goals. It has supported young surgeons from developing countries, like the Philippines, to train abroad and learn skills that can be applied in their own countries.
It also has promoted global unity among the orthopedists.
The SICOT has supported training in methods of research and in techniques for the better management of orthopedic services to the public.
The SICOT Foundation has promoted unity among orthopedic surgeons from around the world whom they have supported.
